Named in honor of our beloved Cindy Lou, the mission of Cindy Lou’s Sanctuary is to rescue and provide sanctuary as a loving and safe home for Dachshunds and other small breeds.
When possible we arrange adoptions to forever homes, but we are always committed to each one’s lifelong emotional and physical care.
Roo update – Roo spent a pretty stable night, her blood sugar dropped again a bit and they are running additional tests now. We are bringing her home again tonight. Cvrc is putting a libre glucose monitor on her so we can track her sugar and help maintain her numbers better. We will be making very frequent visits to our regular vet to make sure she is on track and they will be helping to monitor her glucose closely. … See MoreSee Less

Roo and I have raced back to CVRC emergency hospital from our vet – labwork today came back not good and while we were at the office her glucose dropped to 40 and then 31 – even with dextrose and liquid recovery. Her body temp is dropping – she was wrapped in a hot pad in the picture – please send prayers – please ask for a miracle for our little girl … See MoreSee Less

Our sweet Roo is home! She is not well yet, but she is stable and the docs at CVRC decided we could continue her management at home with follow up visits and labwork at our regular vet. She was severely anemic today and needed a blood transfusion. She is tired and wobbly and has a ton of new meds to take, but we are cuddling her and loving on her! The bills are crazy high and will continue – labwork a couple times a week with vet visits is very expensive not to mention the $6,000 bill from today. We are so thankful for Friends of Berkeley County Animal Center and everyone who has donated! It has certainly taken a big bite out of the bill! Please continue to support and pray for this sweet little girl who is so much a part and heart of our sanctuary. … See MoreSee Less

Today I jinxed myself. I made a comment to a dear friend that it was the first Monday in recent memory that I hadn’t rushed a dog to the vet for an emergency. Yep- about two hours later there I was with our sweet little Binks – after full body X-rays, it was determined he will be ok and nothing was broken (he got into a scuffle with a bigger dog) He’s medicated and resting, but oh what a day! As always, I’m so thankful to the team at The Animal Hospital of North Charleston they take such amazing care of all of our babies! … See MoreSee Less

Oh do I have a special one for you today!!! I want you to meet our newest boy – he was just flown in from NC by Pilots for Paws. I asked the program director to tell his story – he will need some special love and medical attention, but we are happy he is here!
Tyron’s Story
Our Officers were dealing with nuisance goats! Owner was needing to find a home for the goats. I contacted the owner, and she stated that she was looking for a home, and I informed her that I would come after work and get the goats. When I got out to where the goats were, the owner stated that this is an abandoned lot and the housing for the animals was horrible. I walked down the path where I began to hear a small cry for help, as I moved closer to the lot, I seen 2 goats and 1 sheep and a black ball of mat. These animals had no type of shelter and did not have proper food. Tyron and the livestock crew had been living at this abandoned lot for several months. Owner stated she was looking for a home for Tyron but was unsure of what I could do to help her. I immediately picked up my phone, contacted Jan, and informed her that I needed help. I was in tears as I was sending this text. Tyron was born with all 4 legs but only 2 front paws. I informed owner to take Tyron home and I would send an officer out to pick up the following morning. I reached out to a groomer and ask for her help in making Tyron feel and see so much clearer. Tyron was in and out of this shelter within 24 hours but impacted my heart so much. Tyron is the reason why I come to work every single day. To see what an impact he did to my heart just felt amazing.e n

I can’t tell you how grateful I am to Friends of Berkeley County Animal Center for stepping up today and helping out our little Mr Tinker – he is at the Sanctuary resting comfortably this evening thanks to The Animal Hospital of North Charleston and Friends of Berkeley Animal Center. We received an urgent call from Cindy Lou’s Legacy Sanctuary seeking immediate assistance at their veterinary clinic for Mr. Tinker.
With your unwavering support for our mission to help all animals in Berkeley County, we were quick to respond with a yes.
“Mr. Tinker was injured this morning and has an open wound on the left side of his neck that needs drainage and treatment. He also has a wound on the right side of his head requiring care. He will undergo phovia laser treatment for wound healing, with mild sedation and pain medication. Additionally, he will need antibiotics and pain medication for healing at home.”
He is home now and resting easy.
Thank you for your dedication and sponsorship, which empower us to create a safer and better environment for all animals in Berkeley County.
If you are an animal rescue or know of one in Berkeley County, please encourage them to reach out to us at president@friendsofberkeleyanimalcenter.com.

Our “Trio” River, Deeno, and Takoda – I’ve been feeling a bit overwhelmed- not only by their sheer volume, But alsoby the thought of their vet bills ! Thanks everyone who helped!! Thanks to the grant from Friends of Berkeley Animal Center, we were able to get all three of these amazing sweet dachshunds seen by our amazing Dr D at The Animal Hospital of North Charleston, and they had bloodwork and heartworm tests.
